Plot

Mina, an American immigrant working in a pet shop in Galway, Ireland, grapples with the guilt of having inadvertently caused her mother’s death fifteen years ago, leading to her estrangement from her twin sister Lucy. Tasked by her boss to deliver a valuable golden conure parrot to a zoo in Belfast, Mina’s journey is disrupted when her car breaks down in a forest.

Stranded, she names the parrot Darwin and follows an old woman named Madeline to a bunker-like structure called “The Coop,” where she meets two other residents, Ciara and Daniel. Madeline reveals that mysterious entities known as “The Watchers” observe them through a mirrored window each night.

Madeline explains the rules: anyone caught outside the Coop at night will be killed by the Watchers, and no one must enter the Burrows—the underground tunnels where the Watchers hide during the day due to their aversion to sunlight. The group has been for months without a Watcher, but husband John left the Coop days ago and has not returned.

Daniel helps Mina explore a Burrow, where they find items like a camcorder and a bicycle, narrowly escaping a Watcher. One night, John appears at their Coop, but Madeline refuses to let them. When John fails to verify his identity to Ciara, he is seemingly dragged away. The Watchers crack the mirror, prompting Madeline to return the items to the Burrow as an offering.

Review

The film was not well-received by critics. According to Rotten Tomatoes, only 32% of 168 critic reviews are positive, with the movie earning an average rating of 4.9 out of 10.
