Plot
Colt Seavers, a Hollywood stunt performer, breaks his back while working as the stunt double for action star Tom Ryder, leading him to abandon his career and his girlfriend, camerawoman Jody Moreno.
Eighteen months later, Colt is working as a valet at a small Mexican restaurant when Gail Meyer, Tom’s film producer, contacts him. She informs him that Jody is directing her first film, a space opera called “Metalstorm” starring Tom, and wants Colt to join the production in Sydney. Upon arriving, Colt discovers that Jody never requested his presence and is still bitter about their breakup, using the film as a way to express her grievances.
Gail confides in Colt that Tom has gone missing after getting involved with dangerous individuals, and she needs Colt to find him to prevent the already overbudget film from being canceled. Determined to save Jody’s directorial debut, Colt begins his search for Tom. He visits Tom’s apartment and meets his girlfriend and co-star, Iggy, who gives him a lead.
Colt then heads to a nightclub where he encounters drug dealer Doone, who tricks him into drinking a drug-laced cocktail. After fighting Doone’s henchmen, Colt finds a dead body in Tom’s hotel room bathtub filled with ice. However, when he returns to the police, the body is gone.
Review
“The Fall Guy” garnered generally positive reviews. On Rotten Tomatoes, 81% of 353 critic reviews are favorable, with the film achieving an average rating of 7.1 out of 10.
Box Office Collection
By July 8, 2024, “The Fall Guy” had grossed $92.2 million in the United States and Canada and $84.8 million in other regions, making for a global total of $177 million. According to Variety, the film would need to make $275–300 million to break even and is expected to lose the studio $50–60 million.
