Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman’s Film Makes History with $1 Billion Milestone

Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, the stars of “Deadpool & Wolverine,” along with director Shawn Levy, have joined the billion-dollar box office club.

Marvel Studios and Disney’s summer blockbuster reached this milestone on Saturday, ending the weekend with an estimated $1.029 billion in global ticket sales, including $494.3 million domestically and $535.2 million overseas.

This third installment in the Deadpool series, which began under 20th Century Fox, marks a significant victory for Ryan Reynolds, Marvel Studios, and the superhero genre. It’s the first superhero movie to cross $1 billion since Sony and Marvel’s “Spider-Man: No Way Home” two and a half years ago and the first Marvel/Disney MCU film to reach the $1 billion mark since “Avengers: Endgame” in 2019.

“Deadpool & Wolverine” is also close to surpassing Warner Bros. and “Joker” ($1.079 billion) the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time at the Worldwide box office, unadjusted for inflation. It now ranks second after passing “Oppenheimer” and holds the R-rated record in North America.

Moreover, it is tied with “The Avengers” as the fourth-fastest MCU film, reaching $1 billion, and it achieved this in just 19 days. “Avengers: Endgame” tops the list at 5 days, followed by “Avengers: Infinity War” at 11 days, and “Spider-Man: No Way Home” at 12 days.

“Deadpool & Wolverine” is the 55th film to join the billion-dollar club, the 31st Disney title to do so (including three 20th Century Fox films acquired through the Disney-Fox merger), and the 11th MCU film, including two Sony Spider-Man films, “Homecoming” and “No Way Home.”

“Deadpool & Wolverine” has been breaking records consistently since its debut over the July 26-28 weekend. In just two weekends, it surpassed the entire lifetime earnings of the first two Deadpool films, both domestically and globally. The first Deadpool movie earned $363.1 million domestically with a global total of $782.6 million, while the second film made $318.5 million domestically and $734.5 million worldwide.
