The film explores the lives of two friends from Kerala who embark on a quest to achieve their dreams in Madras, which was the epicenter of the South Indian film industry at the time.
Plot:
In the early 1970s, Venu, a high school student, dedicates much of his time to assisting traveling theater groups that visit his hometown. One evening, a play’s producer requests Venu to fetch Murali, a musician, from the local landlord’s residence. Although Murali is intoxicated, he reluctantly agrees to perform that night. Venu is captivated by Murali’s impromptu musical talent, and they quickly form a friendship.
As time goes on, Venu enrolls in college. One day, Murali arrives at Venu’s college, seeking to borrow a newly acquired book from the college library. Venu offers to assist and learns that the book has already been checked out by a first-year student named Annie. When Murali meets Annie to borrow the book, he falls in love with her at first sight. They meet that evening to exchange the book and continue to see each other. However, when Murali asks Annie out, she is shocked and rejects his proposal. She asks him to leave, revealing that she is involved in a sexual relationship with her brother-in-law due to his coercion.
The story revolves around two friends from northern Kerala, Murali Vishwambaran (played by Pranav Mohanlal) and Venu Koothuparambu (played by Dhyan Sreenivasan), who venture to Madras (now Chennai) in the 1970s with dreams of making it big in the film industry. Murali aspires to be a music composer, while Venu dreams of becoming a film director.
