Plot

Marine researcher Sophia Assalas and her team are near the Great Pacific garbage patch, searching for Lilith, a tagged shortfin mako shark. Chris, Sophia’s husband, leads a dive team comprising Sam, Juan, and Tom, while Sophia and Jade remain on the boat. The team witnesses an unusual phenomenon of mako sharks hunting in a pack before locating Lilith, who has grown significantly since her last sighting. Initially, Lilith appears non-aggressive, prompting Chris to attempt to take a blood sample. However, the shark suddenly turns violent, killing Chris, Sam, Juan, and Tom. Determined to find Lilith, Sophia leaves the boat but gets entangled in a net and dragged deep underwater as Lilith escapes. She frees herself, but not without sustaining injuries from the severe pressure change.

Three years later, Sophia is working at an aquarium in Paris. An environmentalist named Mika informs her that Lilith’s tracking beacon is still active and that the shark has traveled from the Pacific to the River Seine, now seemingly trapped in the city. When a man is found dead with shark bite wounds, police diver Adil seeks Sophia’s expertise to locate and kill the shark. However, Mika and her girlfriend Ben turn off Lilith’s beacon to prevent her from being found, hoping to rescue the shark later. This complex situation brings Sophia back into a dangerous confrontation with Lilith, blending her past trauma with a new mission to protect the shark from further harm.

On Rotten Tomatoes, the film holds a 61% approval rating from 41 critics, with an average score of 5.9/10. The consensus on the site states: “Marrying environmental themes with bloody thrills, this Gallic entry into the shark attack canon ultimately lands on the right side of ridiculous fun.” Metacritic, which calculates a weighted average, gave the film a score of 57 out of 100 based on 6 critics, signifying “mixed or average” reviews.
