Plot
In a remote Konkan village in 1952, Gotya, a young Brahmin boy, harbors an intense love for Munni, a woman much older than him whose marriage is already arranged with another man. Fueled by desperation and thwarted love, Gotya resorts to a drastic and dark path, attempting to poison Munni’s fiancé, only to face severe repercussions from his mother. Undeterred, Gotya turns to black magic in the dense Chetukwadi jungle, intending to use a ritual sacrifice of his sister to secure Munni’s hand. However, in a tragic turn, Gotya meets his demise during a struggle, his head fatally struck by a tree trunk. His untimely death, occurring before his Upanayana ceremony, transforms him into a vengeful spirit known as Munjya, bound to haunt the peepal tree until his wish to marry Munni is fulfilled.
Decades later in Pune, Bittu contrasts sharply with Gotya—a timid young man working as a hairdresser in his mother Pammi’s salon. He nurtures dreams of pursuing cosmetology, deeply cherishing his grandmother while grappling with the mystery surrounding his father’s untimely demise years earlier.
