Plot
An aged Murlikant Petkar arrives at a local police station, determined to file a complaint against the President of India for what he perceives as an oversight in not awarding him the Arjuna Award. He passionately argues that receiving this honor would not only validate his achievements but also contribute to the development of his village. When questioned about his eligibility, Murlikant recounts his extraordinary life journey:
Born in the small village of Peth Islampur in Maharashtra, Murlikant harbored a deep-seated ambition from a young age—to win an Olympic gold medal for India. Despite facing ridicule from classmates and disapproval from his father, he pursued his dream with unwavering determination.
His path took a pivotal turn when he fled home to join the Indian Army Corps of EME, where he found his calling in boxing. Selected and trained rigorously, Murlikant represented India at the International Services Sports Meet 1964 in Tokyo, showcasing his talent but falling short in the final due to distractions. Disheartened by his defeat and feeling he had not lived up to his potential, his coach Tiger Ali refused to continue training him.
This turning point marked the beginning of Murlikant’s journey toward resilience and eventual triumph, a story that embodies perseverance and the pursuit of excellence against all odds.
