Plot

Four years after the passing of Isabel Aretas, MPD Detective Mike Lowrey marries his physical therapist, Christine. At the wedding, his partner, Detective Marcus Burnett, suffers a minor heart attack and falls into a coma. During this time, he has a vision of the late Captain Conrad Howard, who tells him that it is not his time to go.

Upon awakening, Marcus is convinced of his invincibility. Soon, a news report surfaces, implicating Captain Howard in drug cartel corruption. Determined to clear Howard’s name, Mike and Marcus team up with Captain Rita Secada and her new boyfriend, mayoral candidate Adam Lockwood. They visit Mike’s son, Armando Aretas, who is in prison for Howard’s murder.

Armando reveals that Howard was not corrupt but knew the identity of the true corrupt officials, who then hired Armando and his mother to kill Howard before he could expose them. Armando offers his help in identifying the person responsible for Howard’s murder.

When the conspirators attempt to access Captain Howard’s computer, a fail-safe triggers a pre-recorded video message sent to Mike and Marcus, alerting them to corruption within federal and state law enforcement. In the video, Howard uses the code phrase “Coke bottle” and reveals that he entrusted information to their former hacker colleague, Fletcher.

The detectives head to Fletcher’s club to retrieve the information, which is a QR code hidden in wall art that unlocks a second video from Captain Howard. However, assassins hired by the conspirators track them to the club and kill Fletcher.

On Rotten Tomatoes, the film has a 64% approval rating based on 231 critic reviews, with an average score of 5.9 out of 10.

By July 8, 2024, “Bad Boys: Ride or Die” had earned $178.2 million in the United States and Canada, along with $183.7 million from international markets, bringing its global box office total to $361.8 million.
