Plot

Amy Winehouse grows up in a Jewish family, with her father Mitch and grandmother Cynthia nurturing her love for music and singing. Her friend Tyler gives her demo tape to his manager Nick, who is impressed by her talent, leading to her signing with Island Records and releasing her debut album, Frank (2003).

Despite the album’s success, Amy disagrees with her record label’s suggestions to change her stage act before releasing Frank in the U.S. She announces a break to “live her songs” and meets Blake Fielder-Civil in a Camden Town pub, where they fall in love. Their relationship faces challenges due to Blake’s cocaine addiction and Amy’s struggles with alcoholism and bulimia. Blake eventually suggests they remain friends as he plans to reconcile with his ex-girlfriend Becky, leaving Amy heartbroken. Around this time, Amy learns her grandmother has terminal lung cancer. Amidst these difficult experiences, she writes her second album, Back to Black (2006), which becomes a global hit.

After the album’s release, Amy and Blake reconcile and elope to Miami, against Mitch’s wishes. Blake is soon arrested for assault and serves a two-year sentence for perverting the course of justice.
