Plot
In North Chennai, Kathavaraayan “Raayan” runs a small fast-food hotel and takes care of his family, which includes his two younger brothers, Muthuvelraayan “Muthu” and Manickavelraayan “Manickam,” as well as his beloved sister, Durga. Since their parents disappeared when they were children, Raayan has been the one looking after them. Manickam is a college student, drinking habits, is infatuated with a woman named Meghalai.
The area is plagued by a rivalry between two gangsters, Durai and Sethuraman “Sethu,” who have been at odds ever since Durai murdered Sethu’s father. The new police commissioner, R. Sargunam, is determined to exploit this rivalry to take both gangsters down through a staged encounter. When Sargunam hears that Durai’s son is drinking at a bar, he sends someone to kill him. But it’s Muthu, also at the bar and caught in a scuffle, who ends up killing Durai’s son. Though most assume Sethu is behind the murder, Durai discovers the truth and gives Raayan an ultimatum: hand over Muthu within 24 hours. Rather than comply, Raayan, Muthu, and Manickam strike first, killing Durai and his gang.
Sethu is left in shock after learning about Durai’s death and soon uncovers Raayan and his brothers’ involvement. He tries to persuade Raayan to join forces with him, offering protection from the police, but Raayan refuses. This leads to a tense standoff between Sethu and Raayan. Sethu attempts to have Raayan killed, but Raayan manages to eliminate Sethu’s men. Meanwhile, Raayan is busy arranging Durga’s marriage to a government employee, taking on the financial burden of ₹5 lakhs, which puts him in a tight spot.

Given its reported budget of ₹90 crores, the film has not only recovered its costs but has also been declared a success, earning an ROI of ₹4.80 crores, which translates to a 5.33% return. The gross domestic earnings, including taxes, have reached ₹111.86 crores. Internationally, Raayan has also been a hit, grossing ₹44 crores. Combining the domestic and overseas figures, the film’s worldwide gross now stands at ₹155.86 crores

Times Now gave it a higher rating with 3.5/5 stars. The Times of India, Pinkvilla, The Indian Express, and OTTplay all rated it 3/5 stars. India Today was more critical, giving it 2.5/5 stars, while Deccan Chronicle rated it the lowest with 2/5 stars.
