Plot

Maharaja follows the life of a barber named Maharaja living in Pallikaranai, Chennai. Tragedy strikes when his wife dies in an accident involving a truck crashing into a house where she was sitting with their daughter, Jyothi. Miraculously, Jyothi survives as a metal dustbin shields her from the debris. Out of affection, Maharaja and Jyothi name the dustbin “Lakshmi” and anthropomorphize it. Moving to a new place with Jyothi, now a teenager, and Lakshmi, Jyothi excels in school sports and attends a sports camp in Coimbatore with her teacher, Aasifa.

One day, Maharaja reports a robbery at the local police station, claiming that armed men raided his home and stole Lakshmi. The police, initially amused and dismissive, are reluctant to investigate what they see as a trivial case. However, Maharaja remains adamant and even faces threats, refusing to back down. He ultimately persuades the police to take on the case by promising a ₹5 lakh bribe. The police enlist Nallasivam, a convict turned informant, to assist in recovering Lakshmi.
