Inside Out 2 is an American animated Movie produced by Pixar Animation Studios and released by Walt Disney Pictures. It is a sequel to the 2015 film “Inside Out,”.

Plot

Two years after relocating to San Francisco, 13-year-old Riley is on the cusp of entering high school. Her emotions—Joy, Sadness, Fear, Anger, and Disgust—now oversee a newly formed aspect of her mind known as the “Sense of Self,” which houses memories and emotions shaping her core beliefs. Joy, determined to fill Riley’s Sense of Self with positivity, devises a mechanism to push negative memories to the recesses of Riley’s mind.

Excitement builds as Riley, accompanied by her best friends Bree and Grace, prepares for a weekend ice hockey camp where she hopes to secure a spot on her school’s team, the Firehawks. The night before departure, a chaotic “Puberty Alarm” disrupts Headquarters, leading to a haphazard upgrade of the emotion console that leaves the headquarters in disarray.

The emotions discover that Riley is overreacting to their inputs, complicating their efforts to guide her effectively. To further complicate matters, four new emotions—Anxiety, Envy, Embarrassment, and Ennui—emerge and clash with the original emotions over how best to handle Riley’s challenges. Joy is determined that Riley enjoys her time at camp, promoting positivity and fun experiences. In contrast, Anxiety becomes fixated on securing a spot on the team and making new friends, particularly after learning that Bree and Grace will attend a different high school.

As Riley navigates the complexities of adolescence and the pressures of high school expectations, her internal landscape becomes a battleground of conflicting emotions, each vying to influence her decisions and experiences. With the arrival of new emotions and the upheaval in Headquarters, Riley’s journey into high school promises to be a turbulent yet transformative experience, shaping her understanding of herself and the world around her.

Inside Out 2′ has grossed $537.9 million in the US and Canada and $696.2 million internationally, reaching $1.234 billion globally by July 9, 2024.

Production

Director: Kelsey Mann, known for his work as a storyboard artist and in the creative department on several Pixar projects, takes the helm for the sequel.
Producers: Mark Nielsen, who co-produced “Toy Story 4,” and Pete Docter, the original director of “Inside Out” and Pixar’s Chief Creative Officer, are involved in production.
