Godzilla x Kong: OTT Platform, Box Office and Review -

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire is a 2024 Dragon Movie directed by Adam Wingard. It serves as a sequel to Godzilla vs. Kong and is the fifth installment in the MonsterVerse franchise. The film brings back several characters from the previous movie.

Plot

Three years after defeating Mechagodzilla, Kong has claimed new territory in the Hollow Earth and searches for more of his kind. On Earth’s surface, Godzilla continues to maintain order among humans and Titans, killing Titanus Scylla in Rome before resting in the Colosseum.

A Monarch outpost in Hollow Earth detects an unidentified signal. On the surface, this signal causes Jia, the last survivor of the Iwi tribe from Skull Island, to have hallucinations, worrying her adoptive mother, Dr. Ilene Andrews, a Kong expert. Sensing the signal, Godzilla leaves Rome, attacks a nuclear plant in France to absorb radiation, and then heads to the Arctic lair of the Titan Tiamat. Monarch believes Godzilla is preparing for an imminent threat.

When a sinkhole appears near his home, Kong discovers an uncharted realm where a tribe of his species survives, including a juvenile named Suko. After an initial confrontation, Kong convinces Suko to lead him to the tribe’s lair, and they bond on their journey. The tribe’s leader, Skar King, battles Kong with the help of an ancient ice-powered Titan, Shimo, whom he controls with a crystal that can cause Shimo pain. Shimo’s ice breath injures Kong, causing frostbite, but with Suko’s help, Kong escapes after losing his axe.

Dr. Andrews and Jia, along with Titan veterinarian Trapper and conspiracy podcaster Bernie Hayes, travel to Hollow Earth to locate the signal’s source. They find the Monarch outpost destroyed and follow the signal to a temple leading to a subterranean section housing a surviving Iwi tribe, who communicate telepathically. They deduce that the signal was a telepathic distress call sent by the Iwi.

According to Rotten Tomatoes, 54% of 247 critic reviews are positive, with the film holding an average rating of 5.6 out of 10.

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire’s box office gross reached $196.4 million in North America and $373.6 million overseas, amounting to a worldwide sum of $569.7 million.
