Hanuman is a 2024 Indian Telugu-language superhero film directed by Prasanth Varma. The plot centers around a young man named Hanumanthu, played by Teja Sajja.

Plot

In 1998, in Saurashtra, young Michael’s obsession with superheroes led to a severe injury while attempting to fly, much to his father’s dismay. Tragically, his parents soon perish in a fire accident. Fast forward to the present, Michael, aided by his friend Siri’s technological innovations, becomes a celebrated “superhero” known as Mega Man in Mumbai. However, he yearns for real superpowers.

Meanwhile, the legend goes that Lord Indra’s attack on a young Hanuman caused a drop of his blood to fall into the South Indian sea, forming a divine gem imbued with Hanuman’s powers. In the dystopian hamlet of Anjanadri, on the sea’s edge, the tyrannical Polygar Gajapathi oppresses the villagers. Hanumanthu, a local petty thief, secretly protects Meenakshi,

the granddaughter of the local school headmaster, who actively opposes Gajapathi and inspires the villagers to rebel. Gajapathi, feeling threatened, orchestrates a fake bandit attack on Meenakshi. Hanumanthu manages to save her but is severely injured and cast into the sea, where he inadvertently finds the gem.

The next morning, Hanumanthu is discovered unconscious on the shore and taken home by his sister Anjamma and friend Kashi. The gem, reacting to the sun’s rays, heals his wounds and grants him superhuman strength.

According to Rotten Tomatoes, 86% of 7 critics have given the film positive reviews, resulting in an average score of 5.5/10.

The film has grossed approximately ₹350 crore making it the highest-grossing Indian film and the highest-grossing Telugu film of 2024.

Cast

Meenakshi: Played by Amritha Aiyer, she is Hanumanthu’s love interest and a doctor in the village. Their relationship forms an integral part of the narrative.
