Plot

Maharaja, a barber living in Pallikaranai, Chennai, tragically lost his wife in an accident when a truck crashed into a house where she was sitting with their daughter, Jyothi. Jyothi survived the accident because a metal dustbin protected her from the falling debris. Out of affection, Maharaja and Jyothi named the dustbin “Lakshmi” and anthropomorphized it. Later, Maharaja moved to a new place with teenage Jyothi and Lakshmi. Jyothi, active in sports, left for a sports camp in Coimbatore with her sports teacher, Aasifa.

While Jyothi was away, Maharaja went to the local police station to report a robbery, claiming their dustbin Lakshmi had been stolen. The police found this amusing. Maharaja explained that an armed gang had raided his house, attacked him, and taken Lakshmi. Initially, the police dismissed the case, considering it trivial. Despite their constant snubbing and even violent threats, Maharaja stood his ground. They eventually accepted the case when he promised a bribe of ₹5 lakhs upon finding the culprits. The police then enlisted Nallasivam, a convict turned informant, to help find Lakshmi.
